Raven Song © Sue O’Kieffe 2010
Longish post ahead:
When I began doodling in 2007 for the November Create Every Day challenge, I had no idea how much it would change my life. It’s taken me a while to really own it all. What began as a way for me to create away from the computer (where I have another artistic life as a digital mandala maker), has now evolved into a passion of equal importance. I have healed a big part of me who believed she could not draw. I now believe know I could do anything creatively I wanted to do, as long as it was something I really wanted to learn.
But where I hadn’t felt entirely cozy inside was knowing what it was I wanted to do with all of this stuff I was allowing myself to express.
A couple of weeks ago I was at Starbucks drinking a vanilla rooibos latte ( tad too sweet for my tastes, but that’s another story), mulling over this Big Question (how do I combine all of my passions and share them in a way that makes sense to me) and I watched this doodle of Raven begin to emerge in the process.
And I heard Raven say to me there is no separation , and that stopped me dead in my tracks.
And in that moment a whole world of new possibilities opened up before me.
This is healing work Im doing. Art and healing is my passion. This is who I am.
My intention and goal is to have everything under the Big Top by the end of the year. One website, one blog, focusing on the themes of healing and art and creativity and embracing who we are For Real.
That is all I know for now, but Im excited and can’t hardly wait to share even more.
Stay tuned for further developments!!

Focus on the color purple this week and you will receive good luck~ found in a fortune cookie
I’m not sure I believe in luck, but I sure do love the color purple. I also like green and coral and turquoise and yellow and just about every other hue and shade in the prismacolor box.
Over at Creative Every Day, Leah’s focus for the month of April is on color. When I looked at my recently completed doodle-dala this morning (which just now made me smile hearing that word in my head), I thought something about these colors beckoned me to celebrate… celebrate celebrate dance to the music colors. And then, (gawwwd, I love sychronicity), I discovered that Leah’s theme on her blog today is all about celebrating our creative sparks. Ohhhh yeahhhhhh!
You know what else I realized this morning? ….doodling is my joy and mandala making is my passion. And that, I believe, is real cause for hand clapping and laughter. (For those of you who do not know, I also have a mandala blog where I focus on my digital art making and my appreciation for everyday beauty and the healing spirit.)
I hope you will all take the time to acknowledge and celebrate the glory of your creativity. No one else expresses it quite like you.
Yup, it’s true, Im still busily doodling mehndi patterns in mandalas and creating variations on those themes in Photoshop. Not only am I currently captivated by these patterns, Im also loving lush green. Did you notice I redid the theme for my blog in a lovely spring green? I like this layout better and find it easier on the eyes, as well.
I’m thinking in a couple of days I will present a tutorial about making these images and how I transform them in Photoshop. Would that be fun? Learning new things is way up on my list of values. How about you?
I’ve joined Leah Piken Kolidas for another year of Creating Every Day. These Mehndi Mandalas fit in nicely with her monthly theme of play.
See you next Mehndi!

a year ago i rose to leah piken kolidas‘ challenge to create every day during the month of november and tried my hand at non digital art. after a year i’ve learned that doodling is relaxing and fun. it also improves my eye, helps me better understand design concepts, and all i have to do is put my sharpie on paper and let go. i’m hooked.
so when i gave my doodles their own blog and started to look around for others who meandered on paper, low and behold i discovered a whole new world of doodling fools giving credence to this so much fun art form. over at doodlage!, RaShell is showcasing doodlers from all over the world. woohoo, not only am i having fun but im fashionable as well. imagine that! be sure to check out her 150th post which inspired this, my 28th.
so ive circled round another year and committed to a month of creativity. stay tuned for another fun filled month of doodling. while you’re at it, come visit me at my other blog and get an eyefull of my inspiring digital mandala art.
