AEDM #28 We Are One

We are  One – © Sue O’Kieffe 2010

How can we not love social networking when we are given the opportunity to connect with amazing creative lovebugs? This particular doodle came through while listening to singer/songwriter Athena Burke sing her jazzy bluesy song, We Are One. You can listen to her, too, right here.

For this particular mandala- inspired doodle,  I used crayons, crayola markers and twinkling H2O’s (for the shiny white bits – hard to see that in the scan – and the green bits, which I see as windows to the heart).

So much fun to create, and even better, so much fun to remember that yes, indeedy, We Are One.

Whee. Are we having fun now?

I created the doodles and started the fun part of coloring, when I decided the background would look better black. First I used neocolors with water, but the black was too grey. Out came the black marker.

I’m thinking next time start with black paper, outline in white pencil and see what that’s like.

The black created a sense of mystery for me, of night sky and heavenly bodies. And these are the constellations of my imagination.

Welcome to my Universe.

Drawing paper is not the best substrate for playing with water  solubles like drawing markers and neocolors. Oh well. Spontaneity won out and I was mostly able to photoshop out the paper wrinkles created from wet media. Im just having fun playing with all these shapes and colors. I’m feeling more relaxed about my analogue art after AEDM. I like the shift. I like really allowing myself to play more and to stop worrying about looking good.

Eden tagged me in this sharing meme. The rule is to respond to the question in one word (or your version of one word.) This was fun. If you want to play, go ahead. Tag! You’re it!

mixing it up

Mixing it Up © Sue Doodles

I took some time off from doodling when it began to be a chore . Where’s the fun in that, I ask?

So now that Im back, I want to play with new stuff, and I definitely want a bigger playing field. Next on my list is to purchase a larger sketch book. I don’t like feeling cramped on the page.

This doodle is just about having fun with color and mixing up the media (in this case, prismacolor pencils and crayola watercolor are learning to play well together).

I wonder if somewhere there is a warehouse filled with authentic Berol prismacolor pencils? I don’t care for the new pencils manufactured by Sanford. Is there another brand you love just as well?
