Day 8 – New Moon March 22
The circle is a perfect container for something new.
Grateful for the time I give myself to explore and relax before sleep. The best sleep aid I know is a little doodling before bedtime.
Day 11 – New Moon Mandala
When is your favorite time to doodle?
We are One – © Sue O’Kieffe 2010
How can we not love social networking when we are given the opportunity to connect with amazing creative lovebugs? This particular doodle came through while listening to singer/songwriter Athena Burke sing her jazzy bluesy song, We Are One. You can listen to her, too, right here.
For this particular mandala- inspired doodle, I used crayons, crayola markers and twinkling H2O’s (for the shiny white bits – hard to see that in the scan – and the green bits, which I see as windows to the heart).
So much fun to create, and even better, so much fun to remember that yes, indeedy, We Are One.
I want to point those of you who follow my doodle blog to a very special giveaway happening right now at Sacred Circle Mandalas, my other blog site.
While these books are not specifically about doodling, what I do know is that mandala making and doodling are intertwined as ways of centering the heart and soothing the soul. If you have ever been interested in mandala making, I would encourage you to come over and enter this mandala giveaway contest, which will be open through July 10th.

Have a glorious day!

Calming Mandala © Sue O’Kieffe 2010
The time that I most appreciate creating art is when I just want to color. This mandala was created during the full moon (in Virgo) this past weekend, I love that feeling of restoration when I allow myself to feel no pressure to create. Doing a little Photoshop inversation is always fun too. That’s what staying in the moment is all about.
For those of you who experience OCD while learning new tangles and can hardly wait for the Zentangle newsletter each month, you can now get your tangle on at the Zentangle blog. Rick and Maria’s blog is only a couple of days old, but I look forward to seeing what they post. And it is another great way to meet other dedicated tanglers.
Grow in Love ~ © Sue O’Kieffe 2009
Trees are one of my favorite symbols. When I was drawing it, it asked to have hearts for leaves. Love is one of my favorite themes. In fact I would say that my art — my digital mandalas and my line drawings –are all about love. I create with Love, I share with Love. My creative impulses are heart- centered.
I decided to play with neocolors in this mandala. It’s a medium Im not as comfortable using as I am my crayons or colored pencils. I think I’d like to take a watercolor class just for a little more confidence, learn the right brushes, and when to stop. But overall I like how the basic image looks and the feeling it conveys.
I Just Wanted to Color © Sue O’Kieffe 2009
I can’t believe AEDM is almost over. This has been the funnest month for me, and I love how it kept me busy with my art. There were things I wanted to do that I didn’t get to, and I hope I get to those want-to’s sooner than next November.
I didn’t really have anything in mind when I created this doodle except coloring it in. Choosing the colors is the best part of a project anyway, don’t you think?
I’ve loved meeting so many wonderful creatives this month. You’ve inspired and wowed me.
Follow Your Bliss © Sue O’Kieffe 2009
Sometimes the Universe sends us messages and we are asked to shut up and listen. Sometimes you ask what is most important in your life. Sometimes you discover you are a really powerful creator.
Sometimes you discover there is no going back; all you can do is grieve and move on, and sometimes that sucks. This going for your dreams stuff isn’t always really pretty. You are asked to take stock. Will you? What happens if you don’t? Sometimes it seems that Getting to Yes requires we say No a few times as well.
What you resist persists.
These are a few of my early morning musings as I consider a message I received this morning.
The only thing I know for sure is that Following My Bliss is where I want to be.

Don’t worry. Be happy. ~ Bobby McFerrin
Doodling makes me happy, captures my imagination, allows my creative spirit free reign. Doodling doesn’t care about perfection; it exists for its own sake.
I love choosing the colors and seeing how they play with each other. Wouldn’t it be nice if everyone could play with each other the way that colors do?
The more I focus on having fun, the less I worry about other people and what they think of me! (Now there’s an admission, and also a truth about life).

Light My Fire – © Sue O’Kieffe 2009
I was inspired to create this doodle after experiencing a really intense coaching session with the wonderful Laura Bly.
It feels so good to cast off all the negative energy that has clogged up the pores of my naturally positive self and throw it all in the funeral pyre. May the ashes be transformed to rise again just like the phoenix . Hot damn.
My own interpretation of this doodle is — first the fire, then the rain to cool and relieve; sweet peace follows along with incredible growth.
(Unfortunately I can’t embed a music player on my blog to go along with this post. Wouldn’t that be perfect to play Jim Morrison’s iconic song for Creative Every Day‘s June theme of sound?)
